A well prepared seed bed is a must!

Till the soil 6-8" deep, to enable good root growth, and
incorporate organic matter and appropiate fertilizer if
needed or desired. (May want to till deeper depending
on the condition of the plot and the crop to be planted.)
Level the area to be covered by your
Watering Weedless WonderTM

as though you were laying out a tablecloth. Stake it
          in place. [see instructions below]

Q: Last year I planted 6 tomatoes in one of your mats with 6 holes and I had a jungle! Each one was in a cage and I could not get to the tomatoes in the center. Did I plant the wrong kind of tomatoes?

A:
We had the same problem. Caged indeterminate tomatoes do crowd the 6 Hole Model. Planting only 3 and staggering them is a possibility and the other 3 holes could be planted to peppers, broccoli  or something of that size. Planting two tomatoes on each end and either block the open holes or plant an early crop of lettuce or spinach. After their harvest the holes could be blocked or the tomatoes will be large enough to shade
out the holes. Six bush or patio type tomatoes should have ample room.

Q: Are your mats available without the soaker hoses?
A: Yes.

Q: Which model is best for green beans?
A: The 3Row Model will give the plants plenty of head room and space for the beans to be picked. But if you use the 5 Row Model beans could be planted in every other row and two of the rows could produce a crop of radishes, lettuce, onions..., then harvested, leaving room for the beans as they mature.  Refer to the planting chart for other suggestions.

TIP:A bulb planter is the perfect size to "dig out" a hole for a transplant to be set in the 6 Hole and 12 Hole Models. Set the tomatoe, strawberry plant or pepper in the hole and use the soil in the bulb planter to fill in.

Q: How can I use a tomato cage with my mat?
A: The bottom of the funnel shaped cages fit well in the 4" holes. It is suggested you use a cage that can be inserted in the ground 6-8 inches. A stake, inserted deeper in the ground can also be used to then secure the cage to it. One of our customers has round cages, 20-24 inches in diameter, and they just carefully pierce the mat, since it is woven, with the "legs" of the cage. No permanent hole is made in the mat.

TIP: Some customers have used the quick hose connectors on the mat's hose making it easy to hook-up.

     STRAWBERRIES ARE GREAT
IN A 12 HOLE MODEL!!!

*Vining plants can be planted in middle rows or randomly in the 12 Hole or 6 Hole model.  Any row or hole not used should be “blocked” with weed barrier.  Vines, in most cases, will extend beyond the mat. Adding a skirting of weed barrier around the edge of the
                Watering Weedless WonderTM
will allow the "fruit of the vine" to lay on a cleaner surface.

    # Plants which may require more room can be planted randomly in the 12 Hole. Unused holes should be “blocked” with weed barrier. Any stakes/cages used can be carefully inserted into the mat BETWEEN the woven “threads”.  The holes will be minimal and not permanent.

Anything normally planted in rows can be planted in the 3 Row or 5 Row models. Plants which are normally planted individually, and may need more space, should be planted in the 12 Hole. At customers' requests, the 6 Hole was designed for tomatoes, but not exclusively.

Remember,
you can plant anything in any mat you please.

 Installing Your
Watering Weedless WonderTM

  • Allow your mat to lay in the garden long enough to be warmed up by the sun. This will smooth out the wrinkles which set in during packaging.
  • IF a "kink" developes in the porous hose, due to packaging, merely pinch the kink and it will be remedied.
